This year will probably break the record in the number of super tropical days -- defined as days with the maximum temperature of at least 35 degrees Celsius in Slovakia, informed the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) on Monday.
While super tropical days also occurred in the past, their incidence has been higher and has exhibited greater regularity since 1990.
"The greatest number of such days - 15 - in Hurbanovo in the Southern Slovakia was recorded in 2012," stressed SHMU.
There were 11 such days this year measured at a weather station in Hurbanovo up to the end of July 31.
"This number will have increased after Aug. 6, and it's certainly not ruled out that the absolute record in this respect, since 1901 at least, will be broken," added SHMU.
Interestingly, although 2014 was the hottest year in history, there was not one super tropical day last year.
