Eight militants were killed on Tuesday night in the Algerian province of Setif, following an ambush laid by a detachment of the army, which also seized a batch of weapons, the National Defense Ministry said in a statement carried by state news agency APS.
"During this quality operation, six Kalashnikov type submachine guns, a Seminov type semi-automatic rifle, an automatic pistol, two grenades and a significant quantity of ammunition have been recovered, in addition to an explosive belt that has been destroyed on the spot," read the statement.
"Such decisive operations conducted by the [army] forces are the result of efforts, permanent vigilance and farm determination to eliminate small terrorist and organized crime groups and eradicate this scourge from our country," the statement added.
