The Criminal Court of Giza decided on Thursday to refer to the Grand Mufti the papers of the Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammad Badi'e and 13 other leading members of the group and the Islamic Group.
The referral decision is a prelude to capital punishment which could be determined according to the religious opinion of the Grand Mufti.
The court slated August 3 for a session to announce the final ruling on the case, the state-run MENA news agency reported.
The defendants were convicted of several charges relating to the violent acts in the vicinity of Al-Esteqama Mosque at Giza Sq., in the wake of the June 30 events which led to the ouster of president Mohammad Morsi.
The defendants also include the two former MPs Mohammad Al-Beltagi and Esam Al-Eryan and former minister of supply Basem Awdeh, as well as the two leading members of the Islamic Group Asem Abdulmajed and Safwat Hejazi
