The former Liverpool man had been benched for the past three Premier League fixtures, all of which his side failed to win, but returned to Alan Pardew’s starting XI as the Toon beat Norwich City. And Guthrie believes that the hard-fought 1-0 win over the Canaries was an important victory for Newcastle\'s European ambitions. He told The Newcastle Evening Chronicle: \"I was very upset and disappointed to be left out the team a couple of weeks ago. I had to pick myself up. \"It was a tough game to come into against Norwich. We were delighted to get the win - we have not won for a few games now. \"It was a tough grind out there, and a bit edgy at times, but it is another three points on the board. \"We got the draw against Wolves which we should have won. We also played decently against Arsenal but lost the game. It is never a consolation, but against Norwich we really grinded it out.\" Newcastle can be backed at 13 with 188Bet to win their next league match away to West Brom by a 2-0 scoreline. Guthrie revealed that it would be a dream to get into the Europa League but admits that there is still a lot of hard work to do between now and the end of the season. But, whilst the midfielder ruled out a late push for the Champions League place, he feels that there is no reason why they cannot achieve that goal in the next few years. \"It would be a proud moment, not just for me,\" the Shrewsbury-born player admitted. \"It would be for all the staff because it was not expected of us. \"The top four is out of our reach. Maybe that will be in the next two seasons for us. \"The Europa League is definitely within our reach. If we show the work ethic and determination we have against Norwich in the next few games, we have a chance.\"
