Ahly’s Portuguese coach Manuel Jose has asked for his contract to be terminated during an urgent meeting with the club’s president Hassan Hamdi on Wednesday, following Egypt’s worst football disaster, according to the German newspaper Kicker. Thousands of Masry fans invaded the pitch after their team’s 3-1 victory over Ahly and the resulting violence left scores dead and hundreds injured. “I have informed the Portuguese embassy that I discussed my decision to leave Egypt with the club’s management,” the 65-year-old revealed. Hassan Hamdi has claimed he convinced Jose to postpone talks about his departure and take a holiday at home in Portugal. Hamdi asked the club’s players and officials not to speak to the media about the tragedy until management had made an official statement. “Egyptian security is responsible for what happened,” Jose told a Portuguese television channel. “They dominated the stadium then suddenly disappeared.” Cairo - Nile sports
