Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, yesterday visited the Global Village in Dubai.
Sheikh Mohammed toured a number of pavilions belonging to the 75 participant countries, in addition to some supportive national institutions of the Global Village. The Global Village has been in continuous development both in the infrastructure and entertainment field and in terms of the number of participating countries and pavilions.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality, in Dubai. Sheikh Mohammed started his visit by touring the pavilion of Kuwait, which displays folklore and the national identity of the State of Kuwait. He was also briefed on the Yemeni pavilion and got an insight with some Yemeni folklore, clothing and other national products.
Sheikh Mohammed toured the pavilion of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation which is deemed the most major supportive entity to the event.
During his tour, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed visited the pavilions of a number of countries such as Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Egypt, and China, and learnt about their folklore and cultural heritage through the exhibited traditional products and art shows.
Sheikh Mohammed concluded his tour by visiting the Fazza Championship for Yola, the immortal, popular sport of the UAE which has been sustained from one generation to another, thanks to the support of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, who pays attention to this national sport to stimulate Emiratis to preserve it as a deep-rooted national cultural heritage.
At the end of his tour, Sheikh Mohammed left the Global Village through the renowned global gate which symbolises the convergence of the world's cultures on the UAE land. Sheikh Mohammed expressed his happiness at visiting this international event which gathers human cultures and civilisations, and stressed that the UAE will continue to be the world's gateway that will never shut down for visitors, tourists and investors, residents, brothers, or friends.
He also reiterated that the UAE's leadership, government and people strive to strengthen the principle of mutual respect with all countries and peoples, build bridges of humanitarian, cultural and economic communication, while simultaneously preserving the national identity, culture and Arab and Islamic roots.
Mohamed Al Mulla, CEO of Arab Media Group, and Ahmad Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of Global Village, also accompanied Sheikh Mohammed during the tour.
