Egyptian MP Magdi Malak described the corruption cases occurred in local administrations recently as scandal. Malak was referring to the appointment of "dead people" as heads of some cities. He also warned from the corruption in the bread system which affects the citizens and waste more money estimated at EGP 27 billion.
In an interview with Arabs Today, Malak pointed out that there are abuses and corruption in the Supply and Bread System, adding that he has documents which prove that the ministry has wasted EGP 27 billion. He explained that there is a manipulation by the owners of the bakery and a number of inspectors of the Ministry of Supply.
He added that he presented a report to the Prime Minister of all the corruption cases and held a meeting with the head of the parliamentary majority Mohamed Al Sewedy. He noted that a campaign was recently launched by the ministry of supply to control the bakeries, however he still calls for further tighten control to stop wasting money amid the current difficult economic conditions experienced in Egypt.
Malak said that the Minister of Local Development Ahmed Zaki Badr has made a recent movement in the local administrations, adding that this decision was "a scandal," as the minister appointed 'dead people" as heads of cities and neighborhoods in a number of provinces.
Malak demanded the Prime Minister to dismiss Badr in the coming ministerial reshuffle, for his unforgivable mistakes.
On the other hand, Malak said that there is no country with similar bad conditions and keep delaying the issuance of investment law despite the sable security situation.
He asserted that the rationalization of expenditures would contribute to fill a lot of gaps, referring to the presidency's frequent demands to reduce the ministries expenditures.
In regard with the personal status draft law for Copts, Malak expressed his optimism of finding solutions for many of the problems related to the Coptic marriage, stressing that there are ideological bases for any religion which should be considered. He pointed out that the Egyptian church is the only entitled institution to put a law that benefits everyone.
