The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Slovakia records between 30 and 40 victims of human trafficking per year, said Zuzana Vatralova, head of IOM's office in Slovakia on Thursday.
The victims are mainly Slovaks who are trafficked abroad, usually to Britain in order to work. IOM in Slovakia provides assistance to such victims by helping them to return home safely.
Last year, for example, the organization identified 29 victims of human trafficking and managed to help 19 of them. "Slovakia is still mostly a country of origin for human trafficking," stressed Vatralova.
In the scope of its activities IOM in Slovakia also assists in the voluntary return of foreigners to their country of origin.
There were 92 cases of this last year. According to Vatralova, IOM in Slovakia assisted in the relocation of 98 refugees from refugee camps to Slovakia.
After some preparations, the refugees will be transferred from Slovakia to another country that will give them a new home.
