Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani could miss his country's Copa America quarter-final against Chile after his father was involved in a fatal traffic accident in his homeland, reports said Tuesday.
Cavani is in discussions with coach Oscar Tabarez over whether to leave Chile to be with his father following the accident late Monday in Salto, in northeast Uruguay.
According to reports in Uruguay media, Cavani could be allowed to leave the squad and would reunite with the team if they progressed to the semi-finals.
A 19-year-old motorcyclist died after a collision with a truck driven by Cavani's father Luis, Uruguayan media reported.
Cavani's father was arrested following the incident.
