Hard-running fullback Israel Folau has picked up Australia's prestigious John Eales Medal in only his second year in the 15-a-side code.
The 25-year-old former rugby league international received the best player award, which is voted on by his peers, at a ceremony in Sydney on Thursday night.
Folau polled 314 votes to 232 for his captain Michael Hooper, who had been tipped to become the first player to win in successive years the gong named after the former Wallaby skipper.
The prolific Folau, who won the rookie of the year in 2013, comes off contract at the end of next year and has not ruled out a return to league.
Lock Sam Carter, who debuted against France in June and has played eight Tests, was named Wallabies rookie of the year.
New Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika won the Australian Super Rugby coach of the year after leading the Waratahs to their maiden title.
"It's a huge honour and a privilege," Folau said. "It's my second year in rugby, but I'm thoroughly enjoying my time.
The Wallabies fly out Friday to take on the Barbarians followed by Tests against England, France, Ireland and Wales.
