Rafael Nadal used a straight-set victory Wednesday to advance to the third round of the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament. Nadal, seeded No. 1 this week, defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-2. While the score suggests an easy match, Nadal was on the court 1 hour, 45 minutes -- relatively long for a straight-set win. Nadal won three-quarters of the points on serve and lost his serve once. He had four breaks in eight receiving games. Second-seeded Andy Murray, the Shanghai Masters defending champion, advanced on a walkover when Dmitry Tursunov was unable to play because of a wrist injury. No. 3-seeded David Ferrer just got by Milos Raonic 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) in another lengthy two-set match. Kei Nishikori outlasted fourth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 6-4 second-round victory. Nishikori had a pair of breaks in each the second and third sets. No. 6-seeded Tomas Berdych dispatched Radek Stepanek 6-4, 6-3 and 12th-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov was a 5-7, 7-3, 6-2 winner over Albert Ramos. However, Santiago Giraldo ousted 14th-seeded Jurgen Melzer 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and Juan Carlos Ferrero advanced by beating No.16 Fernando Verdasco 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Also Wednesday, Feliciano Lopez topped Alex Bogomolov Jr. 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3 and Matthew Ebden beat Ryan Harrison 6-4, 6-2.
