Danny Duffy pitched six shutout innings and Mitch Maier homered Tuesday to deliver Kansas City a 3-0, rain-shortened victory over Oakland. The start of the game was delayed for more than 40 minutes and it rained throughout the evening until conditions deteriorated to the point officials called it a Royals victory with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Duffy (1-0), gave up just one hit and worked around four walks to keep the Athletics off the board. He recorded eight strikeouts. Aaron Crow threw a hitless seventh for his first career save. The Royals\' other runs came in the fourth-inning on an RBI double by Mike Moustakas and Jeff Francour\'s run-scoring single. Maier\'s homer led off the seventh off Jerry Blevins.
