Zamalek Sports Club's general assembly will convene on Thursday to choose a new president after a sudden resignation by its president Mortada Mansour.
Mansour announced his resignation after Zamalek soccer team was announced the champion of the Egyptian Premier League Wednesday.
After his team won the league's final match with Tala'ea Al-Gaish SC, Mansour told reporters that he was the first club's president to be shot, boycotted by media outlets, and subjected to injustice.
"Despite that, I managed to return smile to the Zamalek's fans in Egypt and Arab World," Mansour said.
He stressed that he had not any problems with Ahly SC and its fans.
Mansour said after winning the league title, "I announce my resignation, and called on the general assembly to convene on Thursday to choose new president."
