Kuwait possesses viable potentials to attract foreign tourists interested in exercising their favorite sports in the country, especially water and desert-orientated sports, said on Thursday a Kuwaiti official here at the International Tourism Bourse (ITB) which started yesterday and runs through March 8.
In statements to KUNA and among those representing Kuwait at ITB, Sameera Al-Gharib, who holds the position of assistant secretary for tourism affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said tourists should come to Kuwait to enjoy all sorts of water sports such as sailing, swimming, water-skiing, yachting, and diving to view coral reefs.
Also attending ITB, Mishaal Al-Nejadi, Middle East champion rally driver from Kuwait, told KUNA that desert tourism in Kuwait could easily attract foreign tourists interested in hunting, camel riding, and camping, among other outdoor activities.
He urged Kuwaiti authorities to provide the necessary infrastructure to support water and desert-orientated sports because the latter will spur tourists to spend money in the country, giving thus a much-needed infusion of funds in the national economy and allowing the hospitality industry in particular to thrive.
This is ITB's 49th annual gathering, attracting more than 174,000 visitors over a four-day period. These visitors avail themselves to ideas for their next tourist destination or family vacation. Up to 10,000 exhibitors from 186 countries, including Kuwait, are participating.
