The Tunisian Football Association (TFA) has decided to extend the contract of national team coach Sami Trabelsi until June 2013 following a team board meeting on Wednesday. “The team has important engagements in the upcoming period with the Africa Cup of Nations 2013 and the World Cup 2014 qualifiers, so it was in the best interest of our national team to keep the staff,” TFA spokesman Al-Hadi Fouchali told Agence Tunis Afrique Presse. Trabelsi, 44, was given the job in March of last year with a mandate to rescue the Carthage Eagles who were struggling at the time with CAN 2012 qualifiers. The former international defender managed to reach the finals, making a good impression in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea before losing to Ghana 2-1 in quarterfinals. Trabelsi was subsequently rewarded with a contract extension for an additional 18 months.
