The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) began the countdown for marking its Golden Jubilee celebrating 50 years of success. Founded on September 26, 1964, the QBF contributed to the development of the Qatari sports movement where its players, administrators, coaches and referees made great efforts to promote basketball inside and outside the state of Qatar. The QBF board of directors under leadership of HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani began the preparations for such an important occasion, in which the QBF will honor all those who have contributed to foundation of the federation as well as those have supported the QBF year after year. The Golden Jubilee ceremony will be held on September 26. The QBF was founded on September 26, 1964 with a ministerial decree from HE Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of Education and Chairman of Supreme Sports Committee. HE Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani became the first president for the federation. The first appearance for Qatar national basketball team was during the Arab School Games held in Kuwait in 1963 as basketball was one of four event in which the state of Qatar has participated alongside Football, Athletics and Table Tennis. It is worth mentioning that the first committee formed to develop basketball included Ahmad Al Mughni, Abdulamir Zainal, Mubarak Waleed and Mohammad Saif Mayouf. Source: Qatar Olympic Committee
