Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa directed SCYS Secretary General and BOC Vice President Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa to conduct a comprehensive study on the possibility of privatising national football teams in preparation for the launch of the Bahraini professional football league.
Shaikh Salman paid tribute to Shaikh Nasser for his keenness to develop the sport movement in Bahrain, in general, and football, in particular.
He said steps are being taken to carry out the directives of Shaikh Nasser through the setting up of a specialised committee comprising representatives from relevant parties and the private sector.
He underlined the importance of launching the Bahraini professional league for the key role played by local competitions in developing football. He noted that the step is important but needs a clear-cut policy that relies on successful experiences in this respect.
That policy, he added, has to take into account optimum use of available resources, cooperation with the international and Asian federations and partnership with the private sector to support the tendency towards privatisation of the national soccer teams.
He pointed out that the study will be submitted to Shaikh Nasser when completed to take the necessary decision regarding the move towards privatising the national football teams and the launch of the professional league.
