An action-packed double-header is set to take place at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) on Friday (Editor’s Note: November 5) with plenty of exciting night racing on the cards.
The second round of the 2014/2015 BIC 2,000cc Challenge will headline the evening’s programme at "The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East", while an all-new national motorbike championship will be making a rousing and highly anticipated debut the same night.
All the racing will take place along BIC’s brilliantly lit 2.55-kilometre Inner Track.
The evening’s programme will get underway with the 2,000cc free practice session at 4.55pm. Qualifying will then be held at 5.55pm, followed by Race One starting at 7.16pm. Race Two is scheduled to flag off at 8.36pm.
Both 2,000cc races will be held over 15 laps.
Friday’s events follow a captivating season-opener in which former champion Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa claimed an impressive double. History was made then, as the 2,000cc Challenge held its first-ever night races at BIC.
Hussain Karimi and Abdulrahman Ghuloom joined Shaikh Hamad on the podium for both the opening round’s races, with the pair exchanging places for each sprint.
All three are once again expected to compete Friday night, alongside defending champion Salah Salahuddin and a number of other participants.
For the motorbike series, known as the BMR 600 Championship, free practice at 5.30pm will kick things off, to be followed by qualifying at 6.30pm.
Race One will then begin at 7.57pm, while Race Two will take place at 9.17pm.
Each sprint will take place over 11 laps.
A strong field of some of Bahrain’s top riders is expected to take part in the meeting.
Fans are welcome to watch the evening’s events and enjoy the lively atmosphere at BIC. Tickets cost BD2 for adults and BD1 for children aged 12 years old and below. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
There are eight rounds in all in the 2014/2015 season of circuit racing events. Following this weekend’s second round, the third event will take place on December 19, which will mark the last of the calendar year.
Round four will then usher in 2015 on January 16. The season’s fifth round is then slated for February 6, to be followed by round six on March 6.
The seventh and penultimate meeting is then scheduled for April 24, and the season-finale for May 1.
