Chairman of Kuwait Disabled Sports Club Shafi Al-Hajri hailed the achievements of Kuwaiti athletes who won 13 medals in different games in the international juniors tournament, which concluded in London on Friday.
Kuwait's disabled team won five gold medals, two silver and six bronze in athletics, fencing and table tennis, Al-Hajri told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Sunday. Kuwaiti player Ahmad Nega won three gold medals and two silver in the wheelchair race for 100m, 200m and 400m, while Faisal Al-Rajhi won two gold medals, one silver and two bronze in the same game for the category of 500m and 1500m, Al-Hajri added.
Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Al-Masood won a bronze medal in the hammer throw competition, Ali Al-Sanae won the third place in in table tennis, said the Chairman, adding that Abdullatif Al-Faji and Fahad Al-Bustuki won two bronze in fencing, for the category of (floret).
The club pays huge attention towards allowing Kuwaiti athletes, especially the younger ones to participate in different international events in order to prepare them for the upcoming Paralympic tournament to be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in 2016, he noted.
The Chairman praised the support of the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah and Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for the Kuwaiti disabled teams.
The tournament which kicked off on August 1st included athletic games, archery, table tennis, weightlifting, fencing and swimming, with the participation of 320 athletes from 32 countries.
