Algeria won Sunday two new gold medals and four silver ones during the second day of the African Judo Open 2014 (seniors) which takes place in Port Louis (Mauritius), thanks to Lyes Bouyacoub (-100 Kg) and Mohamed Amine Tayeb (+100 kg).
Bouyacoub, winner of bronze medal at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam 2014, rolled on after his victories over Angolan Cassimiro Bento and Australian Elijah Schuurmans. In the final, he outclassed David Buechel (Liechtenstein).
In the category of +100 kg, Tayeb Mohamed Amine also won the gold medal in a 100% Algerian final played against his compatriot Billel Zouani.
As for him, Abderahmane Benamadi (-90 kg) snatched the silver medal of his category. He dominated in the group A Slovenian Igor Spasojevic. In the semi-final, he defeated English Frazer Chamberlain before being beaten by the other English Andrew Burns.
Algeria was represented by twelve athletes, including five girls.
A total of 144 athletes from 26 countries took part in the African Open in 2014, including 11 African nations.
