Matthew Fitzpatrick has teamed up with golf in DUBAi, promoters and organisers of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, as their newest brand ambassador.
The first player since the legendary Bobby Jones more than 80 years ago to win top amateur honours at both the Open and US Open championships, the 19-year-old Englishman made his professional debut at the Irish Open, currently under way in Fota Island.
Mohammad Juma Bu Amim, Vice Chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, hailed the partnership as a milestone in the long and rich history of his company and the European Tour. "We feel it is vitally important to invest in and support players on the European Tour because they are its lifeblood past, present and future,” said Buamaim.
"We want to give young people the opportunity to be the best and we see Matt as somebody who will not only fulfil his massive potential, but also demonstrate the quality of character, richness of spirit and strength of self-belief which golf in DUBAi holds so dear.”
Bu Amim outlined why he believes the young Yorkshireman and Dubai are a perfect fit. "Matt is emblematic of the city in that he is young, dynamic and willing to undertake great challenges as he pits himself against the best in the world,” he added.
Fitzpatrick was equally enthusiastic about becoming a golf in DUBAi ambassador. "To have the backing of one of golf's most prestigious companies is an ideal start for me,” said Fitzpatrick, who joins England's Laura Davies, American legend Mark O'Meara, India's Jeev Milkha Singh, Stephen Gallacher of Scotland, Zane Scotland of England and renowned coach Pete Cowen at the helm of an golf in DUBAi campaign.
Golf in DUBAi is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as sponsor. The confirmed co-sponsors are CNN, Drydocks World & Maritime World and wasl, while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate Publishing are the Patrons in golf in DUBAi's drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
