Deputy chairman of the Egyptian Football Association Hassan Farid received a telephone call on Tuesday from Egypt's Ambassador to Burundi who informed him of cancelling a friendly match between Egypt's national team and Burundi's national squad.
The ambassador told Hassan that the plane, to carry the Burundian team, will not be able to take off due to the political turmoil in Burundi which led to the closure of the Burundian airspace.
The Federation chairman Gamal Allam notified Egypt's coach Héctor Cúper of cancelling the match.
Cúper had announced the 23-man squad list of players called up to the training camp ahead of the Burundi friendly game.
Egypt was set to face Burundi on Thursday in a friendly game in preparation for the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
