Dubai's newest amateur cycling event, the Dubai Gran Fondo, has generated significant interest and excitement within the cycling community with over 350 riders entered for the inaugural event, organisers announced yesterday.
The Dubai Gran Fondo is the third event on this year's UCI World Cycling Tour, a series of events held around the world where amateurs can compete in road races. The tour consists of 13 UCI-sanctioned races which also serve as qualifying events for the UCI World Amateur Championships in Denmark in September.
The Dubai event will take place on Friday, March 20th, at the Al Qudra Cycle Park, and has attracted competitors from across the region as well as internationally. Registrations were open to male and female categories in eight different age groups.
The event will consist of a 125km road race that will start and finish at the purpose built Dubai Cycling Course at Al Qudra, and the top 25% of finishers in each age group will qualify for the World Championships.
