His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister,today met the President of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), Mr Gianni Merlo, at Gudaibiya Palace.
During the meeting, His Royal Highness noted the growing interest in sports journalism in Bahrain, including in the country’s youth and sports communities. Emphasising the importance of building sports journalism in Bahrain under the framework of further developing sports in the Kingdom, he expressed pride that Bahrain is host to the headquarters of the secretariat of the Congress of the Asian Sports Press Union (ASPU).
His Royal Highness then highlighted the key role that sports media plays in developing sports and culture among the country's youth, and forms a key priority for Bahrain’s sports and youth strategies. He also indicated that the increased prominence of sports media in the country has been achieved by making full use of technical developments in the media and communication sectors.
Mr Merlo, who is in Bahrain to mark the Eighth Arab Journalists Day, in turn expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to meet His Royal Highness. Mr Merlo further praised Bahrain’s interest in sports media and its efforts to expand the reach of sports media within the Kingdom and beyond. The meeting was also attended by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad al Khalifa, son of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, His Excellency Mr Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, Minister of Information Affairs, and Mr Moanes Al Mardi, Chairman of the Bahraini Journalists Association.
