Saja Al-Azmi clinched Kuwait's first medal at the 2014 Asian Para Games on Sunday - a silver medal in the women's F33 shot put.
Al-Azmi nabbed silver behind Qatar's Sara Masaad, with the United Arab Emirates' Aisha Al-Khaldi taking bronze, rounding up an all-Gulf affair.
Speaking of her utmost delight and seeing her nation's flag being hoisted at the podium following the achievement, she said it also gave her joy to see the three podium positions occupied by athletes from the Gulf.
"This illustrates a rise in the level of women's sports across Arab Gulf states," she said.
"The medal is a driving force for me and the rest of the national team to achieve more," she added, expressing profound gratitude to all who supported her in reaching these heights, namely her family and the Kuwait Sports Club for the Disabled.
Meanwhile, chief delegate and Kuwait Sports Club for the Disabled Chairman Nasser Al-Ajmi said that the accomplishment is the start of more to come.
"Kuwait also hold high hopes in the other sports they are competing in - basketball, shooting, fencing, along with the various athletics disciplines.
"Our male and female Paralympic athletes have high spirits and exceptional capabilities, and already have several accomplishments under their belt," he said.
Hailing Al-Azmi on her performance, he dedicated the medal to the Kuwaiti leadership, in recognition of their support to the disabled sports scene in the country, and to the Kuwaiti people.
