A fruitful symposium held at the ongoing Aspire4Sport Congress and Exhibition on Sunday confirmed that the Qatari heritage and historical legacy were jointly used as a source of inspiration to design Al Wakrah new stadium ( first stadium for 2022 FIFA World Cup). In his speech at the symposium on Sunday, Mr. Ghanem Al Kuwari, the Director of the Sport Facilities at the 2022 WC Higher Organizing Committee revealed that, the Qatari heritage , the essence of the traditional dhow and the Arabian pearl fishing boat were dully considered in the design of Al Wakrah new stadium. Likewise, Mr. Jim Jeverin, senior Zahid Hadid company architect and designer of the stadium outlined that the stadium was designed in compliance with the FIFA criteria and regulations , by using environment friendly - materials. From his part, Mr. Graham Grimmer from AECOM company (one of the executing companies of the project) said that the surrounding area of the stadium will be an ideal location for the fans, where the fans will be transported from the Metro station to the stadium gates smoothly. “ There is a positive communication with the FIFA to shed light on the Qatar Heritage through the stadium design, also there is a full agreement between the two sides in these matters” said Mr. Grimmer.
