HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, has made a telephone call to the UAE contingent participating in Rio Olympic Games to inquire about all issues relating to the athletes and the accompanying delegation on the eve of the world's largest sporting extravaganza.
HH highlighted to the members the importance of working together in such a mega event where Emiratis have set unique examples of sincerity and loyalty, which will have a useful bearing on athletes participating in the event and enable them to compete in a vibrant atmosphere and produce their best performance.
"We pin high confidence in our great athletes who will shortly vie for titles and scoop medals to achieve Olympic glory," Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed noted.
The eyes of the world will be on the spectacular opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on August 5, at 7:00am Brazil time, 2:15pm UAE time. The world's greatest athletes will be lining up in front of royalty and heads of state at the Maracana Stadium to celebrate the 2016 games, which will have more than 10,000 competitors hailing from 206 countries vying for 2,488 medals.
The UAE sports mission will be present in the opening ceremony, and will be led by the swimming talent Nada Albadwawi, who has been selected by the UAE National Olympic Committee to carry the UAE flag. She joins the greats who had the same honour such as HH Sheikha Maitha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Beijing Games 2008.
