Former Argentina boss Jose Pekerman has agreed to take up the role of Colombia head coach, the Colombian Football Federation have confirmed. The 62-year-old Argentinian is set to succeed Leonel Alvarez, whose four-month stint at the helm ended last month when he was sacked after a disappointing start to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifying campaign. A statement on federation\'s website, www.colfutbol.org, read: \"The executive committee of the Colombian Football Federation, headed by president Luis H Bedoya Giraldo, has reached an agreement in the last hours with Argentinian Jose Pekerman to become the new head coach of the senior Colombia team. \"In the coming days it is expected the contract will be signed, which will unite the nation ahead of the remaining South American qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.\" Pekerman led Argentina to the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and has club experience in Mexico and his homeland. Alvarez had taken up the Colombia reins following the resignation of Hernan Dario Gomez in August, and won the first of his three FIFA World Cup qualifiers - 2-1 in Bolivia - before a 1-1 draw against Venezuela and a 2-1 defeat against Argentina.
