Athens - Arabstoday

Olympiacos failed to deliver a fitting performance to mark the confirmation of their Superleague title triumph as they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Kerkyra tonight. Olympiacos were officially declared champions on Wednesday after a Greek Football Federation hearing upheld the three-point deduction given to Panathinaikos for crowd trouble at last month's Athens derby between the two clubs. The Piraeus club were awarded a 3-0 win from the fixture, while the points deduction gave Olympiacos an unassailable ten-point lead at the top of the table with three rounds remaining. Their advantage was cut to seven today with defeat at home to Kerkyra, who secured a vital win in their battle against relegation thanks to Elias Ioannou's 80th-minute strike. The visitors saw Dimitrios Kontodimos sent off in injury time, although that will have done little to take the gloss off an unexpected victory that leaves third-bottom Kerkyra a point from safety with two matches remaining. Panathinaikos, meanwhile, swept to a 3-0 victory over Panionios thanks to goals by Lazaros Christodoulopoulos (47) and Antonis Petropoulos (84 and 88). The match between Aris Salonika and Asteras Tripoli was abandoned after 44 minutes due to crowd trouble. Asteras were leading through Ruben Rayo's 35th-minute effort, but the referee was forced to take the players off just before the break when fans began pelting the pitch with projectiles. A female assistant referee was reportedly injured in the unrest and, after order failed to be restored in the stands, the referee ordered the abandonment. The match between third-placed Atromitos and fourth-placed PAOK Salonika ended goalless, although PAOK will have been happy with the point following the 37th-minute dismissal of Giorgos Fotakis. At the other end of the table, second-bottom Panetolikos appear doomed to the drop after a 1-0 loss at OFI Crete, Zelkjo Kalajdzic with the only goal after half an hour. The loss leaves Panetolikos four points from safety heading into the final two matches. Already-relegated Doxa Dramas drew 1-1 with Ergotelis, who took the lead through Aggelos Chandi (23) only to see Aristeidis Soiledis (40) level for the bottom side before the interval. Giannina won 2-1 at home to AEK Athens with Leandro Becerra (58) and Anastasios Kyriakos (84) on target. AEK replied through a Vanderson Scarduelli own goal after 81 minutes. The scheduled match between Levadiakos and FC Xanthi was postponed due to adverse weather conditions and will now be played tomorrow.
