Russia’s richest football club, Anzhi Makhachkala, have excluded star-defender, Roberto Carlos, out of their application for the current season. The 38-year-old veteran, who’s been the team’s player-coach for over half a year, will now not appear for the Dagestan side. “The football player, Roberto Carlos, has been removed from our squad,” German Chistyakov, Anzhi’s vice-president, told Sport-Express newspaper. “Any person with an appropriate license can apply to be a coach. If Roberto Carlos gets one, there’s a chance we’ll see him in this role.” The Brazilian, who became Anzhi’s first big buy a year ago, always said that he wants to stay at the club after finishing his playing career and even become the its president someday. In all, the 2002 World Cup winner has played 25 games and scored four goals for the Makhachkala side. Roberto Carlos was forced to turn to coaching when Anzhi fired Gadzhi Gadzhiev in September last year. He led the team to a Top 8 finish in tandem with local specialist, Andrey Gordeev.
