Ajman Club rocked Diego Maradona’s Al Wasl with a 4-2 win at the end of the 14th round of the etisalat pro league at the Zabeel ground late on Wednesday. Needing full points to keep pace with the top four teams, Maradona’s men disappointed despite going clear as early as the sixth minute on a Juan Oliveira goal. The early initiative was surrendered with Darwish Ahmad scoring an own goal to restore parity in the 20th minute before the visitors broke off for half-time through a Boris Kabi goal in the 24th minute. Oliver Tia made it 3-1 in the 57th minute when he chested well and placed past substitute Ali Al Amir on the Al Wasl goal, only to see Oliveira get the second of the night from the spot in the 78th to keep the interest level up. However, Waleed Ahmad Hassan put the issue beyond doubt when he converted from the spot in the 86th minute. The result propelled Ajman into seventh place with 18 points while Maradona’s team kept their fifth position with 21 points. Much was expected of Maradona’s men especially after much-hyped financial deals with Swiss watch-maker Hublot and local electronics chain Max. And they did start on a good note when Donda cleverly hoodwinked his marker and sent Mohammad Reza Khalatbari, who advanced and shot meekly away from Rashid Ali on the Al Wasl goal. Oliveira gave the Ultras something to cheer about in the sixth minute when he lobbed over goalkeeper Ali Mesmari for the opener. But Ahmad headed into his own goal in the 20th minute to help the visitors restore parity. Four minutes later Kabi got his first goal of the night when he tapped in a deft cross emerging from Lebanese Hassan Maatouk. The second half started on a completely different note with Maradona affecting all three substitutions in an attempt to get more bite in the attack. But this plan misfired as Tia made it 3-1 three minutes from the hour as he calmly chested a Karim Kerkar cross from the right flank and placed past substitute goalkeeper Ali Al Amir. Oliveira pulled one back when he converted from the spot in the 78th minute after Donda was brought down inside the area, only to see Waleed Ahmad Hassan complete the rout, also from the penalty spot with four minutes of play remaining.
