Trees planted in the region of Otararzh Nouakchott - Mohamed Shina Mauritanian ministry of environment announced the launch of a campaign to plant 5,000 trees in the region of Otararzh, with the aim of annihilating desertification. Secretary-general of the ministry of environment stressed his sector’s keenness to preserve the natural environment, as well as eliminate other factors that cause desertification - whether natural or human. \"The sector will not sock away any efforts to protect environment and will adopt the required measures to achieve the goals of national environment plan supported by developing strategies,” he said. Mauritania is the most vulnerable Arab and African country to climate fluctuations and is threatened by desertification due to a decline of plant cover, the disappearance of hundreds of forests and a decline in seasonal rainfall.
