Rotten meat scandal has rocked the institution Cairo - Arabstoday Scores of the Cairo University employees organised a protest on Saturday in front of the university\'s main entrance against the arrest of two senior university officials after a consignment of corrupt meat was confiscated and destroyed, MENA has reported. Hassan al-Isnawi, one of the protesters, said Director-General of Cairo University\'s dormitories and the veterinarian recently rejected a consignment of imported meat from one of the food suppliers and burnt it, forcing the supplier to protest the measure and accusing them of over-acting in their role. The Ministry of Supplies intervened and ordered the arrest of the two officials and they were kept in custody for four days pending further investigations. Reda al-Werdan, another protester, said the student halls, and the nursing and caring staff began a strike at lunchtime, and the students will not be served their meals until their demands of the two officials being released are met.
