Egyptians raise national flag Cairo – Akram Ali Egyptian Ifta House (also known as the Egyptian House of Fatwa) has ruled that saluting the Egyptian flag and standing up for the national anthem is allowed, contrary to rumours some people have spread in the past. The issued Fatwa said: \"Saluting the flag and standing up during the national anthem is a sign of respect, good manners and ethics. Doing the contrary would mean a lack of respect and show disunity and discord.\" The Fatwa explained: “It is a simple way to show love for the nation” The Fatwa added: “The national anthem is a piece of music composed for the country or nation. It became a symbol of the country and is played in military ceremonies and some public events. For this purpose, the music should be played and listened to.” This Fawta responded to the claim that standing up for the anthem or saluting the flag is glorification, which is only permitted for the Creator. The Fatwa insisted that while this gesture may represent glorification of the nation, but it is mainly about showing respect and reverence, which is permitted.
