UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on Saturday strongly condemned Friday's attacks carried out by Houthis and forces loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh in a populated market in Taiz, killing and injuring dozens.
In a statement following his meeting with the Yemeni government delegates to the peace talks held in Kuwait, the UN Envoy said that the inhumane attacks on Taiz worsened the suffering of the residents of the city who undergo a humanitarian disaster due to the ongoing conflict.
He added that he discussed with the delegation of the General People's Congress (GPC) the latest security, political and economic developments in Yemen the proposed solutions to thorny issues, as well as ways to improve them in the next phase.
About the work of the prisoners and detainees committee, he said that a positive talks were held with the Yemeni parties on the release of a number of detainees in the next few days and unconditional release of children.
