The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) denounced Tuesday's statement by Iran's top cleric Ali Khamenei which included false allegations against Saudi Arabia.
In a statement on Wednesday, GCC Secretary General Abdullatif bin Rashid al Zayani said that the GCC countries consider the Iranian allegations regarding pilgrimage as public incitement, in a desperate bid to politicize this major annual Islamic convergence that brings together pilgrims from all over the world during blessed days on the land of the Two Holy Mosques.
The Muslim world is fully aware of the significant and tireless efforts being exerted by the Saudi leadership, government and people to facilitate the pilgrimage and ensure the safety of all pilgrims, he added.
He stressed the GCC states' absolute rejection of the malicious media campaign and unfair statements issued by top Iranian officials against the Kingdom and the GCC states.
