Al Azhar has strongly denounced the terrorist act, which targeted security forces in Arish yesterday and left five policemen dead.
In a statement Thursday, Al Azhar renewed rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, which have nothing to do with Islam.
It also affirmed support for the army and policy in confronting terrorist elements, added the statement.
Al Azhar, meanwhile, extends condolences to the families of the martyrs and prays to the Almighty Allah to grant their souls rest in paradise and bestow patience and solace upon their families, according to the statement.
Five policemen were killed when militants stormed a police checkpoint in North Sinai and opened fire on them, the Interior Ministry has said.
