Mobile app for tourists Cairo - Arab Today Launched by the Egypt Tourism Authority, a new app gives smartphone users an interactive and convenient way to plan a trip to the country. In addition to practical information, Egypt Travel includes an index of 412 destinations and attractions located in the most tourist-friendly regions, including the Egyptian coastline on the Mediterranean and Red Seas, the Nile Valley and the desert. The app is currently available for free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and will be available for Android from mid-December 2013. The app is one of several government initiatives aimed at reviving the Egyptian tourism industry, which has suffered over the past two years due to political instability and frequent uprisings in the country. Most countries recommend that their citizens exercise caution when visiting Egypt, and many formally advise against traveling to cities where the most violent protests have occurred, including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria and Port Said. The Egyptian Tourism Authority, meanwhile, aims to convince international tourists that the violence is not a nationwide phenomenon, and that most of the popular tourist destinations, such as the Red Sea coast and the Nile Valley, are safe. In September, the Authority even carried out an audit to ensure the security of all of Egypt's main tourist sites. Source: Relaxnews
