Décor designer Mai Al-Jeddawi
Cairo – Shaimaa Mekawy

Décor designer Mai Al-Jeddawi revealed her ideas to change your home décor for Ramadan. She told “Arab Today” that, Ramadan is a month for worships and family visits, so it should be received by extra decoration touches including decorating children rooms to spread the joy and happiness of this month. She advised not to buy Ramadan decoration from the market and create them with children using simple materials such as, colored carton, artificial flowers and colored strong papers.
After that, choose pieces of furniture that will stay and move the rest to make room in order to receive as many guests as you can. A big empty portrait can be placed at the entrance of the house, so the guests can leave signatures as a sort of memory, and children can help decorating this portrait by adding their favorite colors and cartoon characters such as, Bakar, Bogy and Tamtam.
She recommended safety when using electric decoration, and said some colored lightings can be fixed to the ceiling surrounding a lantern that reflects lights on the walls. Also adding drawings of calligraphy and other phrases welcoming Ramadan on the wall and at the house entrance will be a nice touch. The food table can be decorated with engraved candles and handkerchiefs. Oriental carpets can also enrich the house with Ramadan spirit, and they can only be used during this month, so they won’t cost a lot.
Mai said a corner in the living room can be added, and it could be decorated with Ramadan decoration such as, the crescent moon, and this corner can be used to drink Ramadan special beverages. The doors also can be decorated, and the curtains as well, and a lot of cushions made from colored fabric with Ramadan engravings on them can be added to the living room and all around the house to spread a sense of harmony. There are also some incenses that can be used during Ramadan to fill the house of fragrant smells.
