Hossam Issa Cairo - Akram Ali Constitutional law professor Hossam Issa does not believe in the validity of Morsi’s decree. In an interview with Arabstoday, he said: “A president cannot issue a constitutional decree, and neither can the armed forces.” The professor went on: “This is a bad sign for democracy, and it will never be accepted by the Egyptian people. They gained democracy after the revolution. It won’t slip away so easily.” Issa has recently been accused of trying to overthrow the regime. In response he said: “I only expressed my view of the new decree.” Issa also has strong views on the Muslin Brotherhood: “The Muslin Brotherhood is trying to repress freedom of expression and opinion, they are trying to control Egypt with force. The Egyptians will not allow that. “A Muslim Brotherhood lawyer once filed a lawsuit against me during the Mubarak era. I was arrested straight away.” The professor believes that judges should consider that this decree in null and void. He added: “Morsi should withdraw this decree, or his credibility will be seriously undermined. After everything he did for Gaza, it is unacceptable to seize the judiciary authority.”
