Secretary-General of Palestinian National Initiative Mustafa Barghouti Ramallah - Nihad Al Tawee Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Mustafa Barghouti confirmed that the security situation, which Israel tries to impose on a daily basis demonstrates that the occupation is not serious in engaging in a comprehensive, fair political settlement. He believes that this is evident from the daily clashes and confiscation of Palestinian land. Barghouti told Arabstoday that the Israeli government has shown “malicious intent” by announcing its intention to freeze settlement activity in Jerusalem, as he believes the announcement to be a “deception of the Arab world.” In his remarks Barghouti touched on the continued mass arrests and “inhuman practices against the Palestinian prisoners and detainees.” He revealed that 25 prisoners suffer from cancer, and more than 100 others are living with chronic diseases. “The situation is ready to explode” he said, “it is becoming more complex and dangerous for unarmed Palestinian citizens to approach armed settlers.” The Palestinian popular resistance movement and all that Israel is doing to confront it “will not discourage activists from what they are doing” the secretary general said. "Today, Palestinian people exercise popular resistance in all areas of occupied Palestine.” Barghouti expressed pessimism regarding US Secretary of State John Kerry and his ongoing attempts at establish a dialogue for peace talks, identifying the “blatant alignment of the US and Israeli governments” as the main reason for mistrust. The general surmised the situation pointing out that the Israeli occupation does not seek a political solution.
