Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah Kuwait - Arab Today A high-level delegation is participating in the Regional Preparatory Meeting for the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in the United Nations to be held by the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo on February 23. The head of the delegation, chairperson of the Women's Affairs Committee of the Kuwaiti Cabinet, Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) the meeting is gaining great importance in supporting Arab women and empowerment, especially during the upheavals in some countries where women are subjected to violence. The preparatory meeting aims to develop a strategy for Arab women and assess progress towards the Millennium Development in the Arab region, Sheikha Latifa added. Kuwaiti's delegation includes a number of committee advisers to enrich the dialogue and discussions at this meeting. The meeting addresses key issues on empowerment of Arab women. It will also prepare an Arab report for the 58th session, due from 10 to 21 March next year, at the UN headquarters in New York. The commission adopts the current initiative to support women and stop violence against them, especially the Arab countries where conditions are unstable and in cooperation with The Centre for Women of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) of the United Nation and Arab League. Sheikha Latifa said the initiative, launched during a meeting of ESCWA'S sixth session which was held in Kuwait in early December last year, was applauded by various bodies concerned with Arab women.
