A maid accused of stealing Dh1,000 cash, jewellery and clothes worth Dh9,000 from her Emirati sponsor's house has been sentenced to three months in jail by the Court of First Instance.
The 33-year-old Indonesian maid, who is currently in detention, will be deported after serving her jail time. The complaint was registered at Al Rashidiyah Police Station.
"On June 26, I came home and found the maid had gone. When I checked our belongings, I found she had stolen Dh1,000, and my cousins' golden jewellery - a necklace and two bracelets," the 30-year-old complainant said.
She also stole some children's clothes before she ran away from the house, the complainant told the prosecutor.
The maid admitted to the police and the public prosecution that she stole Dh1,000 and took the children's gold. She may appeal the ruling within 15 days.
