Carrying out an undercover e-operation, Sharjah Police nabbed five Arab national suspects who were selling fireworks online.
The suspects were using social media to display their fireworks - whose sale is prohibited in the UAE - and deliver it to interested buyers at various emirates. On learning about the illegal activity of the suspects, the criminal investigation department of Sharjah Police conducted an electronic swoop to arrest them.
"The suspects established a special account on various social media to offer fireworks for sale and offering delivery to interested buyers. An undercover police official contacted the owners of the social media account and claimed he wants to buy fireworks. On delivering the fireworks, the suspects were arrested and confessed selling fireworks illegally. The fireworks in possession of the suspects were confiscated," said Colonel Ibrahim Mussabah Al Ajel, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Sharjah Police.
