Sharjah Police arrested two Ethiopian nationals involving a robbery targeting bank clients by using 'new tricks' and swindling methods.
The suspects would carry out their robbery according to a modus operandi where they would pretend to accidentally stain the victim's cloth while walking on the road, then promptly apologize by cleaning the stains with a tissue paper, while the other stole the wallets of the victims before fleeing the scene.
Police have received two complaints about such incidents, including one filed by an Asian who told the police that he fought with the two suspects after they spat on his clothes. He later discovered that the money he withdrew from the bank had been stolen from his pocket.
Another Arab victim, who lodged a complaint at one of the police stations, also stated that he fell prey to the Ethiopian men, who used the same method to rob him of all his cash he had withdrawn from the ATM.
Following these complaints, the police immediately formed a team of CID officers to search for the suspects. During an intense search operation. the police managed to identify the suspects and arrested them.
During the interrogation the suspects confessed to their crime and were referred to public prosecution.
Col. Ibrahim Al Ajill, Director of CID at Sharjah Police, attributed the arrest to the continued efforts of the Sharjah Police in implementing its strategy laid down by future accelerators in reducing the rate of serious crimes.
CID is also coordinating with the banking sector and Public Relations department of police and other media platforms to raise awareness about the dangers of this crime among bank clients in particular and public in general.
