Sharjah Police have arrested two Arab nationals for selling fake vehicle tyres with a market value of Dh250,000.
Col. I Ibrahim Al Ajill, director of CID, told Khaleej Times that the department's officers held two Arabs who were trading and selling counterfeit tyres of one of the major brands in the country.
He added that acting on information received by the CID, police launched investigation which revealed that a company had sold fake tyres with poor quality that didn't match the UAE and Gulf standards. The company had been found violating the regulations to make profit at the cost of the lives of customers.
Col Al Ajill said during the investigation, it became clear that these tyres were specified for export outside the country, but the suspects sold and marketed them in Sharjah.
"These tyres violated the safety conditions and are a significant threat to security and life of vehicle drivers if they are used. The agents of the trademark stated that the seized tyres is counterfeit and doesn't conform with the approved Gulf specifications," he said.
Colonel Al Ajill explained that the fake tyres had technical and industrial defects that pose danger to the lives of the drivers.
He called on vehicle owners not to get swayed by the cheap prices offered by some sellers who promote goods that may not be of high quality. In fact, most of the time these products are counterfeits that hide many defects and involve many risks.
Paying less for such tyres could cost drivers their lives or cause them permanent disabilities. He called on them to choose established companies that sell reliable tyres, and are sponsored by manufacturers.
