Condemning "in the strongest terms" terrorist attacks in Iraqi capital, Baghdad, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today underscored the need to swiftly apprehend and prosecute its perpetrators.
In a statement attributable to his spokesperson, Secretary-General Guterres also "reiterated that the United Nations will continue to stand by the Government and people of Iraq in their efforts to fight terrorism."
The attacks come in the midst of the holy month of Ramadan, a period marked with fasting, charity and prayers.
Also in the statement, Mr. Guterres expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Jan Kubis, condemned in the strongest terms the two terrorist bombings in the capital Baghdad on Monday night and Tuesday morning which resulted in many casualties among civilians as Iraqis observed the holy month.
