A 24-year-old man has been charged with sneaking into the flat of a woman at night and touching her as she slept. The Lebanese man has also been accused of stealing Dh500 from her purse.
He faced trial on charges of trespass, molestation and theft in the Court of First Instance.
The case dates back to February 16. The incident, which took place in a building in the Business Bay, was reported at Bur Dubai police station.
"I went to bed around 11pm. At 5am, I felt someone entering my bedroom and moving the blanket and touching me. The man ran out when I screamed for help," the Finnish complainant, a manger aged 30, said.
Her flatmates told her that they indeed saw a man entering their rooms with a mobile in his hand he was using as a light. They did not chase him and thought he left the place. "I found he stole Dh500 from me when I checked my purse," she told the prosecutor.
The complainant's British flatmate, 29, said she left her bedroom door open for another roommate -- who did not have keys -- when she slept at midnight. "Someone entered our room around 4am. My roommate was sitting on her bed. I screamed and told him to go out which he did."
Still photos taken from surveillance cameras show the defendant was at that building on the day the incident occurred.
