A Russian admitted in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday that he showed an Emirates ID card which was not his own to a police officer.
The 32-year-old defendant (a student) also admitted he had lied in the police interrogation and public prosecution investigation about his name as he pretended he was the original holder of the ID.
The case dates back to March 20.
A lieutenant at Al Rashidiya police station said, "I was checking the files of the detainees and noticed that one of them was a Kyrgyzstani national who had left the country about seven months back."
"I called after the accused. He said he was a Russian and had given false information to investigators and showed them an ID which was not his because he was an illegal resident since 2004."
During prosecution's investigation, the accused confessed he presented the other man's ID to the police officer as he did not hold a valid residence visa. The ID was seized.
