Law enforcement agents in the UAE took part in a simultaneous operation with Australian Federal Police that led to the arrest of five members of an international crime syndicate.
The Dubai arrests are part of a larger operation conducted by the AFP to dismantle two interlinked organized crime networks involved in smuggling and the narcotics trade.
The operation reflects the UAE's ongoing support for its global partners and its strong stance against drug trafficking. The UAE Ministry of Justice and the Dubai Public Prosecution Office also contributed to the success of the operation, said a statement issued by Dubai Media Office.
Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police commended the partnership between international, federal and local authorities, which resulted in the arrest of the five Australians in Dubai
According to the Australian Federal Police, the joint Australian, Dutch and Emirati operation against the two crime syndicates resulted in a total of 17 arrests and the seizure of more than 1.9 tonnes of drugs destined for Australian streets.
